  History

Newbury Park is a peaceful, nature-filled community on the western edge of Thousand Oaks, California. Once home to the Chumash people, it later became ranch land in the 1800s and was named after Egbert Starr Newbury, an early settler who started the local post office. Though it remained rural for a long time, the area began to grow in the mid-20th century as Thousand Oaks expanded. Most of Newbury Park was eventually annexed into the city, but it kept its quieter, more open feel. Today, it’s known for its scenic beauty, suburban neighborhoods, and strong ties to the outdoors, with easy access to trails, parks, and mountain views.
