History
Santa Rosa Valley is a rural, unincorporated community in Ventura County, sitting just north of Newbury Park, between Thousand Oaks and Camarillo. A long time ago, the land was part of Chumash territory; Even today you’ll see wildlife roaming — bobcats, coyotes, mule deer — and the terrain still feels wild in many parts. The valley is fairly small in size (about 5 miles east‑west, 2 miles north‑south) and is mostly open land, used for agriculture or kept more natural rather than densely developed. Roads connecting it to neighboring areas include Norwegian Grade (built by the local Norwegian Colony) linking to Thousand Oaks, and Santa Rosa Road toward Camarillo. Today, Santa Rosa Valley feels quiet and spacious, kind of a buffer between suburban life and countryside. It has fewer commercial centers, more open views, and a slower pace than many built‑up parts nearby.
